Funding Opportunities for Early Career Investigators
There are opportunities that exist specifically to help researchers at the early stages of their careers attain funding. Below are several agencies that offer their own programs. Air Force Young Investigator Research Program (YIP) - having received their PhD in the last 8 years

Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Research Program (YIP) - in their first or second full-time tenure-track or tenure-track-equivalent academic appointment, who have received their doctorate or equivalent degree in the past seven years

Early Career Reviewer (ECR) Program - 1 year of experience as a fulltime faculty member, Assistants only

Stephen I. Katz Early Stage Investigator Research Project Grant (R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) - U.S. Citizens, having completed their terminal research degree or end of post-graduate clinical training, whichever date is later, within the past 10 years

Packard Fellowships for Science and Engineering - Eligibility: must be within the first three years of their faculty career. Deadlines in March.

Pew Biomedical Scholars - Eligibility: As of Sept. 5, 2024, run an independent lab and hold a full-time appointment at the rank of assistant professor (must not have been appointed as an assistant professor at any institution prior to June 10, 2020). Deadlines early Fall.
