Dr. Yuxaio Zhou, along with a team of 8 others, recently published a journal paper titled “Wirelessly Actuated Microfluidic Pump and Valve for Controlled Liquid Delivery in Dental Implants” in Advanced Healthcare Materials. The paper details their impressive improvements to the dental implant process. Minimally invasive and precise control of liquid release in dental implants is crucial for therapeutic functions but remains challenging due to the lack of miniaturized pumps and valves. Dr. Zhou and her team were able to create miniature wireless pumps and valves for on-demand control of liquid delivery in dental implants. These devices promise to deliver antibiotics to prevent biofilm and infuse stem cells for osseointegration in periodontal diseases!
